Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers for parents, before you start

MathRoot is a premium AI-powered math mastery platform for Grades 3–8. Here are honest answers to the questions parents ask most about Skill DNA, programs, AI practice, coaching, pricing, safety, and progress.

Start with clarity. No pressure. No guessing.
Getting started
What is MathRoot Academy?
MathRoot is a premium AI-powered math mastery platform for Grades 3–8. It diagnoses your child's weak areas, builds a personalized mastery path, combines AI practice with human coaching, and gives parents clear visibility into progress.
Is MathRoot a tutoring website?
No. Tutoring usually patches tonight's homework. MathRoot is a mastery system: it diagnoses the real gaps, builds a structured path, and tracks genuine skill growth over time — with a real coach guiding the way.
Who is MathRoot for?
MathRoot is built for students in Grades 3–8 — whether they're struggling with hidden gaps, coasting without being stretched, or ready to get ahead before algebra. The free Skill DNA Check tells you exactly where your child fits.
How do we start?
You start with a free Math Level Check. Your child completes a short Skill DNA diagnostic, you receive a clear map of strengths and gaps, and we recommend the right program — all before you pay anything.
Skill DNA Check
What is the Skill DNA Check?
It's MathRoot's diagnostic starting point. It identifies what your child understands, where they struggle, how fast they solve, what mistakes they repeat, and which skills need attention — turning a vague worry into a clear plan.
Is the Math Level Check really free?
Yes. The check is free and there's no obligation to continue. It exists so parents never have to guess the right level, program, or plan before committing.
Is this a pass/fail test?
No. It's a learning map, not a pass/fail exam. There's no failing — only a clear picture of where your child is strong and where the next growth opportunity sits.
What will parents receive after the check?
A clear Skill DNA Map showing strong areas, developing areas, growth focus, speed and accuracy, algebra readiness, the recommended program, and the exact next focus for practice.
Programs
Which grades does MathRoot support?
MathRoot focuses on Grades 3–8, because these are the years where math foundations, reasoning, pre-algebra, and algebra readiness are built — or quietly broken.
What programs are available?
Four tracks: Foundation (Grades 3–4), Mastery (Grades 5–6), Pre-Algebra (Grades 6–7), and Algebra Launchpad (Grades 7–8). Each closes the right foundation before the next stage gets hard.
Is placement based only on grade?
No. Grade is the starting point, but final placement is based on the Skill DNA results — your child's actual math level, gaps, and readiness, not just the number on a report card.
What if my child is ahead of grade level?
Then MathRoot stretches them. The Skill DNA Check identifies advanced readiness and places your child on a track that challenges them — including early algebra preparation when they're ready.
AI + practice
How does MathRoot use AI?
AI detects skill gaps, mistake patterns, speed issues, and readiness levels. It personalizes practice and generates smart hints based on what your child actually needs — then flags insights for the human coach to review.
Does AI replace the teacher or coach?
Never. This is a line we won't cross. The AI assists the coach — it finds patterns and handles practice — but a real human coach explains, motivates, and guides your child. The coach is permanent by design.
Will the AI just give my child the answer?
No. MathRoot uses Socratic hints — it asks the one question that helps your child find the answer themselves. It never just hands over the solution, because that doesn't build real understanding.
How much practice does a child do?
Practice happens in short, focused sessions — not exhausting marathons. The goal isn't volume; it's the right problems at the right difficulty, adjusting in real time as your child improves.
Coaching + reports
What does the coach do?
Coaches review progress, explain difficult patterns, guide live small-group classes, motivate your child, support confidence, and help parents understand what comes next. They approve every parent report before it reaches you.
Will parents see progress?
Yes — clearly, every month. Your parent dashboard shows mastery growth, practice completed, strongest area, current growth focus, next focus, and a coach note. You'll never have to wonder if it's working.
What kind of reports are provided?
Clear monthly progress reports that explain growth, growth-focus areas, and next steps — in plain language a parent can read, not vague comments like "doing fine."
Is this only for students who struggle in math?
Not at all. MathRoot helps struggling students close gaps, but it also stretches strong students who are coasting and prepares advanced learners for algebra ahead of schedule.
Pricing + safety
Do I need to pay before knowing my child's level?
No. MathRoot starts with a free Math Level Check, so parents never have to guess the right program or plan. Exact pricing is shared after the check, once we understand your child's actual needs.
Can I change or cancel later?
Yes. You can manage your subscription options easily from your parent dashboard at any time.
Is MathRoot safe for children?
Yes. MathRoot is parent-controlled, age-appropriate for Grades 3–8, and COPPA-compliant. Important insights are reviewed by a human coach, and there are no childish distractions or unsupervised AI chat.
Will my child's data be used carelessly?
No. Privacy for an under-13 audience is a core design requirement, not an afterthought. Parents manage the account and control communication and visibility throughout.

Still have questions?
